PRESENTERS AND INVITED FACULTY

The ISHA 2022 Annual Scientific Meeting will bring together specialist hip preservation faculty from around the world. Faculty will be listed below as confirmed.

Presidential Guest Speaker:

Mr. Richard J. Lynch, II

A native of Ridgefield, Connecticut USA, Mr. Richard J. Lynch, III, “Dick”, has been an active part of the orthopaedic and sports medicine community since 1971. In the transition from open to arthroscopy orthopaedic surgery, he has served as an advisor, innovator, and executive to generations of international orthopaedic surgeons and industry associates from around the globe. Before Dick Lynch, orthopaedic sports medicine surgery was a game of debridement, loss of active lifestyles, and uncertainty. After Dick Lynch, orthopaedic sports medicine surgery has become a field of joint restoration, return to active lifestyles, and confidence. The field of hip preservation would not be where it is today without his vision and leadership.

Always a committed family man, Dick is one of four children, a father to one, and grandparent to two. He is an Eagle Scout. Following his graduation from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, he served honorably in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. Upon returning from Vietnam, he became engrossed in Charnley’s orthopaedic total hip evolution led by industry pioneer, Howmedica. As the world of sports medicine and arthroscopy emerged around him in the 1980s, he made a professional gamble in 1988 to be a founder of the revolutionary company, Mitek; bringing to market the first arthroscopic suture anchor, the “G1”. This gamble paid off, delivering a reliable way to repair tissue arthroscopically and avoiding the morbidity of open surgical exposure as well as unnecessary debridement.

Richard "Chad" Mather

MD, MBA

Duke Health, Durham NC, USA

I got an early start in sports medicine working with my father. He is a veterinarian for racehorses, and I always say I followed in my dad's footsteps - just in a different species! I was drawn to orthopaedic surgery by the importance I place on enjoying a functional, productive life. Living without pain and being able to pursue the things that bring you joy is much of the essence of life. Thus, my first question for my patients is what they do for work and for fun. My goal is to help you regain productivity and joy in your life. In addition, I have a great interest in personalized care and aligning care decisions with the goals and preferences of each individual patient. In addition, I made a deliberate decision to focus solely on hip preservation surgery to gain a deep understanding of the hip and its function and the skills to deliver the best possible outcomes to my patients.
