Overview

On Saturday October 19th, 2024, ISHA is delighted to be offering a dedicated Post-Conference Physiotherapy Program, during which physiotherapists and other rehabilitation experts will have the chance to discuss in detail the issues most pertinent to non-surgical as well as pre- and post-surgical treatment of patients with hip conditions.

This year's Physiotherapy Program will cover the latest thinking on fundamentals of physical therapy as well as exploring innovations and progressions for return to sport. In keeping with ISHA's collaborative ethos, there will be contributions from international PT and MD faculty.

Furthermore, registered delegates of the Post-Conference Physiotherapy Program are invited to attend any of the "crossover sessions" taking place immediately prior (07:30 - 08:30) as part of the main Annual Scientific Meeting program.

Ashley Campbell, PT, DPT, SCS, CSCS

Nashville Hip Institute, Nashville TN, USA

Ashley graduated with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Belmont University after completing her BS in Exercise Physiology at Ohio University. She is a Board Certified Specialist in Sports Physical Therapy as well as a Registered International Sports Physical Therapist and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Ashley has worked extensively with athletes at all levels including PGA, NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB. She enjoys utilizing a variety of manual therapy techniques in clinical practice including IASTM and Trigger Point Dry Needling which she feels are a great adjunct to joint mobilizations and corrective exercise in developing a well-rounded and effective plan of care, especially in hip patients. Ashley lectures nationally and internationally on topics ranging from hip rehabilitation, to injury prevention and functional movement She is a lead instructor with Advances in Clinical Education, and holds an Adjunct Faculty position with Belmont University’s School of Physical Therapy in Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. She serves as the managing editor of the International Journal of Sports Physical Therapy and has won awards for leadership and clinical skills from Belmont University and the APTA’s Sports Physical Therapy Section.


RobRoy Martin, FRCS (Tr & Orth)

Duquesne University, Pittsburgh PA, USA

A bachelor degree in Physical Therapy was completed in 1991 at S.U.N.Y. Health Science Center in Syracuse. A doctoral degree from the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences was completed June 2003 at the University of Pittsburgh. Current employment is at Duquesne University as a Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy and as a part-time staff-physical therapist at the Center for Rehab Services/University of Pittsburgh Medical Center’s Center for Sports Medicine. Currently serves as an Editor for the Academy of Orthopaedic Clinical Practice Guidelines. Areas of interest include outcome research related to the lower extremity, specifically the hip, ankle and foot. Over 100 publications, 200 presentations, and 4 grants have been completed related to this research agenda.

J. W. Thomas Byrd, MD

Nashville Hip Institute, Nashville TN, USA

Dr. Byrd is the co-founder of the Nashville Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Centre and Past President of both ISHA the Hip Preservation Society and the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA). He is team physician for the Tennessee Titans, has served as physician for the U.S. Olympic team and is a consulting orthopaedic surgeon for numerous professional sports franchises from the NFL, NHL, NBA, WNBA, MLB and MLS as well as players from the PGA, LPGA and ATP. He is a Clinical Professor, Vanderbilt University, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation and serves on the Advisory Board for the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI). Dr. Byrd developed the technique of hip arthroscopy that is most popularly used around the world. He pioneered many of the specific surgical procedures for hip arthroscopy and invented numerous instruments that have revolutionized aspects of orthopaedic surgery. He has authored three textbooks on hip arthroscopy, edited numerous other texts and journals and has published over 200 scientific papers, technical and review articles, and book chapters. He has been one of the leaders for defining and developing the role of less invasive arthroscopic techniques in and around the hip.


John Christoforetti, MD, FRCSC

The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics, Bethesda MD, USA

John Christoforetti is an internationally recognized thought leader in the field of hip arthroscopy and sports medicine. In 2019 he joined the leadership team at Texas Health Sports Medicine and relocated his practice from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the DFW Metroplex. He treats active adolescent and adult patients who suffer injuries in their hip, shoulder or knees with evidence-based, patient-centered philosophy. He has performed over 3000 arthroscopic procedures and his results have been presented and published in peer-reviewed forums internationally. He has authored book chapters, original research, and been featured in national media as commentator on sports medicine.He currently serves as a team physician for FC Dallas, Major League Soccer Club, Master Instructor of Hip Arthroscopy for the Arthroscopy Association of North America, Board of Directors Member, ISHA - The Hip Preservation Society, Editorial Board Member for the Journal of Arthroscopic Surgery, Founding Member of the MASH study Group, and Faculty-at-Large for the American Hip Institute. Dr Christoforetti is a member of the American Society for Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy Association of North America, the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy and the American Academy of Surgeons. He is a master instructor of hip arthroscopy at the Learning Center in Chicago, Illinois and a faculty member for the American Hip Institute also based in Chicago. He reviews original research for publication in the areas of arthroscopic surgery of the hip and surgery of the shoulder for all major journals.


Ashley Disantis, DPT, OCS

UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh PA, USA

Ashley Disantis, DPT, OCS is a physical therapist at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and is a board certified clinical specialist in orthopaedic physical therapy by the American Physical Therapy Association. She is the PT Team Lead for the Adolescent and Young Adult Hip Preservation Program at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Ashley received her bachelor's degree in biology at the University of Richmond and her doctorate of physical therapy from Columbia University. She completed her orthopaedic physical therapy residency at the UPMC Center for Rehabilitation Services. Currently, she is pursuing a doctorate in rehabilitation science at Duquesne University. Ashley's clinical and research interests include rehabilitation of patients with non-arthritic hip disorders including hip labral tears, hip dysplasia, and femoroactabular impingement.


Benjamin Domb, MD

American Hip Institute Research Foundation, Des Plaines IL, USA

Dr. Benjamin Domb is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and hip arthroscopy. He has been rated amongst the Top Doctors in the country by NY Times, US News, Word Report, and Castle Connelly. He is the founder of the American Hip Institute, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to educating, innovating, and improving the minimally invasive treatment of hip injuries. Dr. Domb has treated numerous professional, Olympic, and elite level athletes, including players for the NFL, NBA, and NHL. He is has cared for the Chicago Sky, Los Angeles Lakers, Dodgers, Kings, and Galaxy. Dr. Domb is amongst the most experienced hip arthroscopy surgeons in the United States, and is one of the first surgeons to perform robotic hip replacements. He is the inventor of cutting edge techniques in hip arthroscopy to treat injuries such as labral tears, impingement, and gluteus medius tears. Dr. Domb treats patients from across the country who travel to Chicago for their surgery, and he takes pride in caring for every patient like a professional athlete.


Keelan Enseki, PT, MS, OCS, SCS, ATC

UPMC Centers for Rehab Services/Center for Sports Medicine Clinic, Pittsburgh PA, USA

Keelan is a residency-trained physical therapist. He completed his B.S. in Biobehavioral Health with a minor in Neuroscience at the Pennsylvania State University. Keelan attended the University of Pittsburgh completing a Master of Physical Therapy and M.S. degree in Health and Rehabilitation Science. His additional credentials include being a certified athletic trainer (ATC), board certified orthopaedic (OCS) and sports (SCS) physical therapy specialist. He is currently serving as the Director of Clinical Practice Innovation, Administrative Director of Physical Therapy Residency Programs, and Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Residency Program Director at the UPMC Centers for Rehab Services/Center for Sports Medicine Clinic as well as an adjunct and clinical instructor for the University of Pittsburgh Departments of Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine and Nutrition. Keelan’s clinical interest is conservative and postoperative rehabilitation of patients with hip pathology. This has cumulated into >70 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and invited presentations related to this topic.

I have been a Physical Therapist for over 20 years and have been treating patients with FAI and labral pathology since 2006. I have an interest in protocol development, joint laxity and core muscle injuries associated with hip pathology.


Kate Jochimsen, PhD, ATC

Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston MA, USA

Dr. Kate Jochimsen is a Researcher at the Center for Health Outcomes and Interdisciplinary Research at Massachusetts General Hospital and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. She earned her M.S. in Athletic Training from Florida International University, her Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Sciences from the University of Kentucky and completed her postdoctoral training in biomechanics at Ohio State University. Most of her work “bridges the gap” between sports medicine and psychology. She is an NIH K-awardee who is developing a mind-body intervention to improve rehabilitation outcomes for patients with hip-related pain. The Helping Improve PSychological health (HIPS) intervention teaches patients skills to improve their pain-related cognitions (‘how they think’) and emotions (‘how they feel’) to improve their health behaviors and increase physical activity. Dr. Jochimsen is passionate about advancing psychologically informed practice, and she enjoys educating sports medicine clinicians how to communicate about mental health and intervene when appropriate. She is a licensed athletic trainer with 12 years of clinical experience working with high school, Division I collegiate, and recreational athletes. Her work has been supported by the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Institutes of Health.


Dave Kohlrieser, DPT, SCS, OSC, CSCS

Orthopedic One, Columbus OH, USA

Dave Kohlrieser completed his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Ohio University where he received a bachelors degree in exercise physiology and a doctor of physical therapy degree. He completed a sports physical therapy residency program with University of Pittsburgh Medical Centers, Centers for Rehab Services. He is a board-certified sports and orthopedic clinical specialist through the American Physical Therapy Association. His professional sports experiences include an affiliation with the Pittsburgh Steelers and working as a physical therapist for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Dave is currently employed at Orthopedic One in Columbus Ohio, where he coordinates rehabilitation for a wide variety of surgical and non-surgical hip conditions. Dave has presented to national and international audiences on topics related to rehabilitation of various hip pathologies. He has authored and co-authored book chapters and peer reviewed articles on topics associated with the rehabilitation of intra- and extra-articular conditions of the hip and pelvis.


Liran Lifshitz, MSc, PT

Physio & More, Tel Aviv, Israel

Liran Lifshitz is a physiotherapist and lecturer with over 28 years of experience, holding both Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Tel Aviv University and currently studying for an MBA in Health Care Innovation at Reichman University. He is the founder and owner of  "Physio & More Clinic". A Full-time clinician specializing in sports injuries with a particular interest in lower limb hip and groin pain. Beyond his clinical work, Liran passionately lectures and teaches courses both nationally and internationally on topics ranging from hip and groin to lower-limb sports injuries and taping. He was for 12 years the physiotherapist for Israel’s football national team and headed the Medical Department of the Israel Football Association. Additionally, he holds the chairmanship of the Israeli Sports Physiotherapy Interest Group (IPTS).


Robert Manske, PT, DPT, MPT, MEd, SCS, ATC, CSCS

Wichita State University, Wichita KS, USA

Mr. Robert C. Manske PT, DPT, MPT, MEd, SCS, ATC, CSCS, is a professor and former chair in the Doctoral Physical Therapy Program at Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas.  Rob graduated from WSU in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education, a Master of Physical Therapy degree in 1994, and further earned a Master of Education degree in Physical Education in 2000. He received his DPT from Massachusetts General Institute of Health Professions in 2006.  Rob has been an APTA Board Certified Sports Physical Therapist since 2002.  Rob is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and a certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) through the National Athletic Trainers Association. Rob has been nominated and received numerous awards for excellence in teaching at the local, state, and national level – receiving the APTA Sports Academy’s Turner A. Blackburn Hall of Fame Award in 2021, the Academy’s Excellence in Education Award in 2007 and the Ron Peyton Award in 2018. He was a 2 term Vice President of the APTA Sports Physical Therapy Section.  To date Rob has edited/published 12 books, multiple chapters, articles and home study courses related to orthopedic and sports rehabilitation.  Rob is an editor for both the “International Journal of Sports Physical Therapy” and “Journal of Sports Rehabilitation” and is also currently a manuscript reviewer for The Journal of Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy, Athletic Training and Sports Health Care, Sports Health a Multidisciplinary Approach, Physical Therapy in Sports, and The American Journal of Sports Medicine (AJSM), and in the years 2005-2007, 2011-2020 was named a Principal Reviewer for AJSM.   Rob has lectured at the state and national and international level during meetings for APTA, NATA and the NSCA, and has instructed approximately 10-12 courses per year on hip, knee and shoulder rehabilitation.  In addition to his full-time faculty appointment, Rob is a physical therapist and athletic trainer for Ascension Via Christi Health and serves as a Teaching Associate at the University of Kansas Medical Center Department of Rehabilitation Sciences in Kansas City, and the Department of Community Medicine for the Via Christi Family Practice Sports Medicine Residency Program.  Most importantly Rob continues to practice weekly – spending approximately 10 hours per week treating a variety of hip, knee and shoulder conditions!


Alfred Mansour, MD

Mcgovern Medical School, Houston TX, USA

Dr. Alfred A. Mansour III joined the department of Orthopedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth in Houston in 2012. He is board certified with the ABOS and obtained his subspecialty certification in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. He completed a pediatric orthopaedic fellowship with special emphasis on hip preservation at Children's Hospital Colorado followed by a sports medicine fellowship at Steadman-Hawkins Clinic Denver, and currently serves as a team physician for the NBA Houston Rockets, as well as consultant for the Houston Texans and the University of Houston. His dual-fellowship training has equipped him to provide the full complement of hip preservation surgery, including hip arthroscopy, surgical hip dislocation, and periacetabular osteotomy. He graduated summa cum laude from Texas A&M University while becoming a seven-time NCAA All-American swimmer. He then attended Louisiana State University Medical School at New Orleans, serving as Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society president. He then completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. Dr. Mansour currently serves as director of the Comprehensive Hip Preservation Program at McGovern Medical School. He is a member of the AAOS, AOSSM, and POSNA. His clinical and research interests include pediatric trauma, adolescent and young adult hip deformity and preservation, and sports medicine.


Kate Martin, PT, DPT, SCS

Colorado University Sports Medicine And Performance Center, Louisville CO, USA

Kate Martin completed a sports physical therapy residency and is a board certified sports specialist through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. She has extensive experience in managing hip and knee conditions; specifically femoroacetabular impingement, hip dysplasia, and ACL injuries. Kate currently works at Colorado University Sports Medicine and Performance Center in Boulder, Colorado where she serves as a member of the interdisciplinary hip team under surgeon Dr. Omer Mei-Dan. Prior to arriving at CU, Kate spent eight years at The Ohio State University where she served as the coordinator of the Hip Outcome. Kate also earned her Masters degree in Clinical and Pre-clinical Research in 2018. She is actively involved in research focusing on outcomes after hip arthroscopy and interdisciplinary management of hip pain.


John O'Donnell, Ass Prof

Hip Arthroscopy Australia, Richmond VIC, Australia

Professor John O’Donnell is an Orthopaedic Surgeon, and founding member of Hip Arthroscopy Australia, who works in Richmond, Victoria, Australia, and specialises in the treatment of conditions of the hip joint, including both arthroscopic hip surgery and hip arthroplasty. He performs surgery at St Vincent’s Private Hospital, East Melbourne, and performed his first hip arthroscopy in 1990. He now has performed more than 10,000 hip arthroscopies. He is a Past-President, and a founding member, of both the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy (ISHA) and the Australian Hip Arthroscopy Society (AHAS), and is both the convenor and Chairman of the biannual Melbourne International Hip Arthroscopy Meeting. In 2018 he hosted the 10th ISHA ASM in Melbourne.He has a particular interest in the treatment of young adult hip disorders, including Femoro-Acetabular Impingement, hip instability, and ligamentum Teres injuries, and has published widely on these subjects in international peer-reviewed journals, as well being regularly invited to speak at both Australian and International conferences.


Gail O'Neill, PT

My name is Gail O'Neill and I have been a Physical Therapist for 42 years first specializing in Orthopedics and for the past 16 years specializing in Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy. I founded my own private practice in Palm Beach Gardens 5 years ago with 2 other locations in Stuart and in Boca, Fl. In my Stuart location, I have had the pleasure of sharing office space with Bryan Graham where we have collaborated together on many hip/pelvic floor cases. We both recognize the correlation between these 2 areas of the body and how neither should be overlooked when evaluating and treating this patient population. It is my goal to continue to bring awareness both with the general population as well as the medical population.


Marc Safran, MD

Stanford University, Stanford CA, USA

Dr. Safran is a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine at Stanford University. He is also the Chief of the Division of Sports Medicine at Stanford University. He is a team physician at Stanford, as well as for many Olympic, college, professional athletes and teams. Dr. Safran is a past president of ISHA and was program chair 4 times for the ISHA Congress. Dr. Safran performs basic and clinical science research related to hip biomechanics, clinical outcomes and surgical techniques. He led the group that developed the iHOT (International Hip Outcomes Tool) and the group that developed the North American Hip Arthroscopy Registry – HipSTR (Hip Surgical Treatment Registry). Dr. Safran is a deputy editor of the Journal of Hip Preservation Surgery. Dr. Safran has authored over 285 peer reviewed publications, 145 books chapters and 9 books.


Yael Steinfeld-Mass, MScPT

Yael Steinfeld-Mass is a physiotherapist since 2001. She completed her first and second degree in physical therapy with honors. She was an assistant professor in biomechanics for 7 years in the physical therapy department of Tel-Aviv University. Currently she is a PHD student in Tel-Aviv University. Yael's clinical and research interests include rehabilitation of patients with non-arthritic hip disorders including hip labral tears, hip dysplasia, and femoroacetabular impingement.Clinically, after working in the health care in Israel for a few years, in 2008 she opened a private clinic: "Maagalim Health": a rehabilitation clinic which brings together a unique combination of specialists in sports medicine, physiotherapy, osteopathy, hydrotherapy, athletic training, alternative medicine and nutrition. Yael is passionate about "team work" to help our patients to achieve their most desired goals with an emphasize on "health promotion" and prevention.Over the years, Yael took many post-graduate courses in sports medicine, biomechanics, pelvic floor rehabilitation and cognitive therapy. Thus, in her clinical work she combines a very wide way of addressing the patient's contributing factors for their problems. Now, she hopes to combine some of those insights to her research.


Timothy Tyler, MS, PT, ATC

Timothy F Tyler MS, PT, ATC has been working in sports medicine for the last 30 years. In 1991 he graduated with a Masters in physical therapy from Long Island University and started as a staff physical therapist at the Nicholas Institute of Sports Medicine and Athletic Trauma at Lenox Hill Hospital shortly thereafter he was promoted to Clinical Research Associate where he remains on staff as a consultant. He is currently employed by Professional PT as the Director of Sports Medicine Development. In addition, he teaches and treats golfers with The Titlest Performance Institute. He is a member of the ISHA, APTA, AOSSM, NATA, ICCUS, ASSET and serves on the Editorial Board of The International Journal of Sports Physical Therapy. He has published over 55 articles in peer review sports medicine journals along with writing 30 book chapters. In 2010 he was the first to be president of the Sports Physical Therapy Section and the American Society of Shoulder and Elbow Therapists in the same year. He became the 24th member of the Sports Physical Therapy Hall of Fame in 2018. In 2021 he was awarded The AASPT’s highest honor the Ronald G. Peyton Award which is to acknowledge and honor a member of the American Academy of Sports Physical Therapy who has made a distinguished contribution to the specialty of sports physical therapy.


Mike Voight, PT, DHSc, SCS, OCS, ATC, CSCS, FAPTA

Belmont University, Nashville TN, USA

Dr. Michael Voight has had a distinguished career as both an educator and clinical physical therapist for over 30 years. Throughout his career he has not only become one of the leading authorities in the rehabilitation of orthopedic and sports injuries, he has worked tirelessly to advance the knowledge of others as a clinician and educator by making significant contributions to the literature. Presently, Dr. Voight is the Director of Sports Medicine at the Nashville Hip Institute and is also a tenured professor with Belmont University’s School of Physical Therapy in Nashville TN. Dr. Voight is recognized as a clinician of the highest caliber, and has worked with a number of high-profile athletic organizations. Throughout his career, Dr. Voight has served as a Team Physical Therapist for teams in both the NFL and NBA. In addition, Dr. Voight has consulted with various teams in MLB, NHL and the MLS. Early in his career he became active within the United States Olympic Committee's Sports Medicine Division. He has worked at the Olympic Training Center, Olympic Festivals, Pan Am Games, Olympic Games, and has had the opportunity to travel to almost all of the different continents with various Olympic and national teams.  Presently, Dr. Voight still maintains a clinical practice at the Nashville Hip Institute, specializing in orthopedic and sports related injuries particularly with PGA tour players. His role with the advisory board of the Titleist Performance Institute allows him to consult on the prevention, evaluation, and treatment of golf injuries with many noted golf professionals. Dr. Voight has lectured extensively at various conferences, symposiums, and congresses both nationally and internationally having given over 900 professional presentations on a variety of orthopedic and sports medicine topics. Dr. Voight actively resides on the editorial boards of several different journals and is currently the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Sports Physical Therapy. He has authored over 80 papers, textbook chapters on various topics, and has written three textbooks on functional exercise.


Andrew Wolff, MD, MSc

Washington Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, Washington DC, USA

Dr. Wolff is a board-certified fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in hip arthroscopy, hip preservation and sports medicine. He has been in practice in the Washington, DC area since 2008. He is widely recognized as an expert in the field of hip arthroscopy and preservation. Dr. Wolff is an internationally recognized leader in the field of hip arthroscopy and preservation. He regularly lectures at national and international hip meetings and publishes research peer-reviewed orthopaedic surgery literature about hip preservation procedures, best practices as to how to perform them and how to achieve the best results for these patients. He is the vice-president of Multi-Center Arthroscopic Surgery of the Hip (MASH) Study Group that aggregates data from leading hip surgeons around the country to allow careful research to improve the outcomes for our patients. He has helped develop and design techniques and instrumentation that have made the arthroscopic treatment of hip problems easier, safer, and more reliable. Additionally he is a Consultant Reviewer of current research for the American Journal of Sports Medicine and the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.As a leader in the field of Hip Preservation and Hip Arthroscopy, Dr. Wolff was recently named as Chairman of the Annual Scientific Meeting for ISHA - The International Hip Preservation Society to be held in Washington DC in 2024. Dr. Wolff has also served as the president of the Washington Orthopaedic Society in 2012-2013 and co-chaired the 2012 Virginia Orthopaedic Society meeting. He currently serves on the Membership Committee for ISHA - The International Hip Preservation Society and is an active member of the ISHA, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and a fellow of American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.Dr. Wolff is a graduate of Amherst College and Washington University School of Medicine in Saint Louis where he received multiple awards–including selection for membership in Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He went on to complete his Orthopaedic Surgery residency training at Yale and a Sports Medicine and Hip, Knee and Shoulder fellowship at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado.

Attendees can purchase registration for the ISHA 2024 Post-Conference Physiotherapy Program only, but are also warmly welcomed to join the main Annual Scientific Meeting Program from October 17th to 19th. Dedicated rates are available.

Physiotherapists, rehab experts, and allied health professionals are also invited to submit abstracts for presentation as an oral or ePoster presentation as part of the main Meeting.
